Our Story

My name is Ana-Marija and I am the Owner, Designer and Seamstress of Zenaswimwear (all rolled into one). I love to sew and have been making and designing bathing suits since I was in high school.

My first, ever experience designing a swimsuit, was at the age of 12. Growing up, I was a curious child who loved to learn and was always creating something out of nothing. I would use my fathers tools and old wood scraps to make barbie furniture, and when my mother was not paying attention I would help myself to her old sewing machine and create some "fantabulous" barbie clothes....

I grew up in a middle class family where we had everything we needed, but fashion was a luxury. As a young girl I loved fashion and especially loved beachwear. Our Family would usually spend summers camping and I would live in my swimsuit the whole time. My Parents would usually buy me one swimsuit per season, however I would always dream of having more.

One Summer came along, and I decided to try and make some swimwear bottoms from the  left over spandex fabric my mother had stashed in the hall closet. The fabric remnants were from an old skating costume she had made me years prior..

I didnt have a pattern so what to do????.....Thinking hard, I decided to take apart a pair of my favorite old panties.

For all you out there that Sew and have tried sewing spandex---its not as easy as it looks. Being young and lacking knowledge, I still couldnt figured out how to attach elastic to the leg openings. I did contemplate for a while and then decided that the ZigZag function would somehow do the trick. I held my breath, pushed the sewing machine pedal, and away we went.

After carefully holding up the bottoms to admire them, I knew that I had a slight problem,-- the waist and leg openings were smaller in circumference, bunched up, and nothing like what you would see in the store. They definately were not a work of art, but I was so proud that they fit! I ended up wearing them that whole summer.

As I got older, living in a very small town, I was never able to find a suit that I was specifically wanting. Back In the 80's & early 90's there were no concepts of mixing and matching separates, all you had were a few colors and styles you could choose from. The one thing that I did not care for was if you liked the top, the bottoms were too tight or vice versa.  At that point in my life I decided to dwell back to the creativity of my young self and start sewing and designing my own. Here is where I began my beautiful journey into the swimwear world.

"I have created a website, where you can become the designer..... Everything is 100% custom, from Choosing fabrics, styles, and then altering them to your satisfaction. Large sizes are my specialty. I have made anywhere from an AAA to a KK bra size."

Zena swimwear is a home based business where every single piece of swimwear is individually handcrafted. We start from the bottom up by using your measurements, options and color choices. In the last 15 years, since I had started Zenaswimwear,  not one (1) identical suit has been made to this day.  I love what I do and hope to make this online experience the most comfortable, effortless and exciting for you. Standard Construction
11-13 business days

ZenaSwimwear Suits are constructed, and drafted in a timeframe of 11-13 business days. This does not include Shipment transit times or Canadian Holidays.

Once billing and credit information has been authorized and verified, construction of your suit will fall on the following business day.

If you order more than one complete suit
(3 or more pieces) please add 2 more business days to the construction time above.

Please Note:

If your suit takes up to 13 business days to construct, you will need to count only the business days following your order date. The 14th business day would be the latest date that your items would ship and leave our store by. If any Canadian holidays are within those 13 business days please add an extra day for construction of your items.

Work Week

Depending on the shipping type you choose please take note that Canadian Shipping Companies only work on a Monday to Friday Basis excluding Candian Holidays. ZenaSwimwear.com's website prices are all quoted in US Dollars. The loonie has dropped significantly in 2015, however we have taken it upon ourselves to charge all Canadian residents at Par. Your Credit Card will reflect the exact amount on your invoice but only in Canadian instead of US funds. ( you must have a canadian shipping address when checking out.)

 

Currency Converter

Depending on the days currency exchange rate you can estimate how much your swimwear will be in your countries currency. All of our transactions will be converter by your issuing banks currency exchange rate and will be reflected on your credit card in "your" countries funds.

Credit Card Charges

If you have paid by credit card, please note that your credit card has only been authorized for the amount of your invoice. Your card will not be fully charged untill we start the cutting/construction of your swimsuit which is about 4-5 days prior to your shipment date.

Payment Declines

Why Was My Credit Card Declined?

Sometimes an order may be cancelled because your credit card is declined. Only your credit card issuer or financial institution can confirm the specific reason for a declined credit card. Possible reasons include:

  1. The credit card number or expiry date was incorrect.
  2. Insufficient funds on your credit card.
  3. As a security measure, some credit card companies reject transactions when a large number of online purchases are attempted within a short time.
  4. Some credit card companies reject international charges as a security measure. ZenaSwimwear is located in Canada and uses credit card processing services located in Canada.
  5. Technical issues originating with your bank or credit card company, result in a declined card.
  6. You attempted to use a VISA, MasterCard, or American Express branded gift card. There may be terms and conditions specific to the card that prevented the transaction from completing.

When a credit card has been declined, regardless of the reason, ZenaSwimwear cannot reinstate the order, nor can we re-process the credit card transaction.

Credit cards may be declined for a variety of reasons, such as a technical error during processing. We, unfortunately do not have access to further information due to the fact that your credit card info is not housed with ZenaSwimwear.com but our banks merchant processor.

Please Note: If your credit card does not go thru or is declined, 50% of the time it is because you are an international customer, or (non-Canadian) and your bank will sometimes need to be called to lift the international purchase ban they have incorporated on your credit card.

During the Check out Process

How do I design a custom Swim suit?
1 Take your time and browse all of ZenaSwimwear's styles, fabric choices, and options.
2 Grab a Pen or pencil and and print off our Measurment Instruction Guide (PDF). Here you will be able to record all the measurements needed for you to place an order plus have them written down and recorded if you do choose to order from us again. If you are unable to download and print our Guide, ZenaSwimwear.com does have all the measuring instructions on each applicable product's page which will guide you in taking your measurments.
3 To measure yourself, try and find a soft tape measure. If you do not have one we have a
free tape measure you can print and assemble yourself.
4 Once you have decided on what you would like to create, fill in all the forms, select boxes and drop down menu's on our site, with fabric selections, options and additions. Once you are done click the add to cart button. You may continue to add items, visit other collections within the site or proceed to the checkout.
Am I able to return or exchange my swimsuit if I dont like the Fabric?

Unfortunately, We are not able to give refunds or exchanges if the customer does not like thier fabric choice. However, we do send out free fabric samples so that you may view the prints and colors before you place an order. We have links to order Free Fabric Swatches in the Fabrics Gallery pages throughout ZenaSwimwear.com.

I am an International customer, how do I know my correct sizing?

What can I do if my Swimsuit does not fit quite right?

Does ZenaSwimwear have any store locations, am I able to come in for a fitting?

Unfortunatley, we do not have any store locations. ZenaSwimwear.com is a small home based business, and as an online retailer we do want our customers to have a fantastic experience when buying our products, we will try and give the best information upfront that will help most customers answer any questions that might arise.

How can I check the status on the construction of my swimsuit ?

If I order today, when will my swimsuit be completed?

ZenaSwimwear's items are made on an individual basis. Each custom swimsuit is individually drafted and handcrafted. Please allow 7-15 business days for production (this does not include the shipping.) For more information, Please see our Construction Estimate info tab.

Can I make a change to my swimsuit order once it has been placed?

To make any changes to your swimsuit order, please email us with the changes to your swimsuit can usually be made within 5-6 days after you place your order, after this time frame we have already started the cutting out and construction phase on your custom swimsuit.

I live outside of Canada, How will my Credit Card be charged?

All of our products are priced in US dollars. Your invoice total is a US dollar amount. All Visa's, Amex and MasterCard's will get charged in US funds and then your Financial Institution's exchange rate will be applied to your Credit Card statement.

At ZenaSwimwear.com we construct each suit individually, and due to the standards of our Terms and Conditions, we are not able to administer a refund on our Custom swimwear. In the unlikely event that you did receive a defective item, we will gladly replace it with the same item of equal value with no charge to you. By "Defective" we mean: Rips and tears in the fabric, broken clasps, and damage caused by the carrier.

We do allow for Alterations under our Strict Alteration Policy. Please make sure that you ask as many questions before you order. See Below.

ZenaSwimwear.com has a 7 business day Alteration/Exchange policy which commences from the moment of delivery. After this time, we will no longer be able to accept Alteration/Exchange items.

Contact

Please contact ZenaSwimwear.com via the Online Alteration Request form tab above within 7 business days of delivery. We will need to distinguish if the item(s) are eligible to be altered. "Eligible" means that you have filled out all your information as stated on your purchase invoice correctly, pertaining to Measurements, Fabrics and Options. see the Exceptions tab for more info.

If we find that your request is valid , we will contact you via email in 1-2 business days to ask a few questions and present you with a few options.

Costing

Alterations are made for a 25% charge of the initial cost of item plus shipping. If you have overestimated a Tankini or swim short length we can alter this for a minimal charge of $15.00 including your shipping costs.

Return

Alterations are generally completed within 2-3 weeks once your item is received. All items returned for alteration must be in their original state, with all tags and sanitary protection labels in place, and deemed to be in unworn condition before they can be accepted.

At ZenaSwimwear.com we will try and work with you to make your alteration process a satisfying one. Unfortunately, ZenaSwimwear.com will not be able to process any alterations/ exchanges due to the following;

Fabric / Color

If the customer dislikes the style or fabric color.

Please Note: We have a link to order Free Fabric Swatches in our Fabrics Gallery page where you may recieve the fabric samples prior to you purchasing a swimsuit.

Measurements

If the Measurements, Fabrics, and Options are not filled in correctly and/or missing, also If a standard size is only chosen with no measurements. All companies have their own standard measuring system. A 36DD from one company can correlate to a 36D from another company, for this reason ZenaSwimwear does require your measurements to filled out.

Defective

For any defects to the Fabric/Material after the suit has been worn: which includes the wear and tear, deterioration of Swimwear due to Chlorine, and defects caused by the purchaser.

Original Condition

Items that have been worn, abused, altered, soiled, washed or damaged in any way. ZenaSwimwear.com holds a no warranty policy, we are not responsible for any damage that you may incur. Items received in such condition will be returned to the client and the purchaser will be charged for the return shipment, and forfeit all claim

Shipping

Please use a prepaid, insured and traceable method to ensure a safe and documented delivery. We cannot accept C.O.D. on merchandise returned to us. ZenaSwimwear.com will not be held liable for any lost packages being delivered to us.

Returns from the USA

Returns from the U.S. must be shipped via the United States Postal Service (USPS) - standard shipping. Returns from the U.S. shipped through companies other than USPS - e.g. FedEx, UPS, DHL, etc. - will be refused.

All returned items should be declared as a “Return/Repair of Canadian Merchandise” on the customs declaration including a maximum value of 20.00$, otherwise United States Customs will charge ZenaSwimwear.com a 40% duty on the value that you place into this field. Returned items that don’t have this mention on their custom declaration will be refused and returned to the sender. Moreover we will have to charge your credit card for the fees paid on the package.
